Veekys Has Completed The Upgrade On The 2nd-Generation Physical Gear Stalk Kit

Since our physical gear stalks for Tesla new Model 3 and Model S/X was launched, they have been favored by lots of Tesla users. It's Veekys's great honor to get so many users' recognition, as well as optimization suggestions. Inspired by their shared passions and driven by a desire to enhance Tesla experience for owners worldwide, Veekys started an upgrade journey. An Encouraging Start

Since our high-performance turn signal & gear stalk kit for Tesla new Model 3 and Model S/X was launched, they have been favored by many Tesla owners.
Many Tesla new Model 3 high-performance owners said "this is one of the most practical Tesla aftermarket kits they've modified." Some owners also said "This aftermarket kit is so cool. It perfectly retains the control convenience of the old Tesla without affecting the technological feel of the new Tesla!". The followings we have just listed some of the positive feedbacks from our users after their installation.



It is not surprising that turn signal and gear stalk kit can meet the needs of many stalkless Tesla owners, but getting so many owners' recognition and praise is totally out of our expectation. At the same time, we have also received many optimization suggestions from Tesla fans. They hope the physical stalk kit can be more stable and reliable, because it is highly relevant to driving safety. Some fans hope it to be more multifunctional, for example hope to control each stalk action through the app. And some others said, they only wanted to install the turn signal lever, as they have got used to the touchscreen gear shifting, but signaling out through tiny indicator buttons in roundabouts is intolerable! We sincerely appreciate all voices from users, those valuable suggestions have well received and considered carefully, and will be implemented one by one. All the above-mentioned functions will be improved and added to the second-generation product. And it's already on its way. At the time of writing this article, we have completed the security and stability testing and upgrade on the second-generation(NEW PLUS) of entire series of products.

How An Ordinary "Soldier" Became A "Special Force"

In order to further improve the safety and reliability of this series of products, our technical team conducted almost devilish tests on this product. It is mainly divided into 5 parts, consisting of EMC testing, electrical performance testing, environmental testing, material testing and assembly testing. Here is a brief introduction to why these parts should be tested.

1.EMC Test
As we all know, Tesla vehicles are known for their electrification and intelligence, and the latest Tesla Model 3 high-performance version has a total of 37 controllers. Then after we install a new accessory kit, the new kit needs to be compatible electrically with the vehicle's original equipment and enable to work reliably. Meanwhile we need to ensure that new installed kit will not affect the work of the original equipment. To verify this, the EMC harassment test and immunity test are needed to pass. This testing is the most important part of overall product compatibility. Since this test requires the use of an anechoic chamber (a specific test environment that can isolate electromagnetic waves from the external environment), the equipment for this test requires as high as 800,000 USD, eventually we cooperated with a third-party laboratory for testing.

Although we have fully considered these test items at the beginning of the design, there were still several small details that took nearly three times of rectification and verification. Finally, in nearly half a month, all 10 test items related to EMC were completed.



2.The Electric Performance Test
This test is consistent with the ultimate purpose of EMC above, but EMC examines more of the impact of electromagnetic waves. Electrical performance is considered at the wire level, such as the connection and disconnection of other high-power equipment; such as human body static electricity; such as poor contact of connectors, etc. The impact of abnormalities that may be encountered during the installation and use of this product.

This test category is also the most among all tests, with a total of 13 test items.



3.Environmental Test
This test is mainly to ensure the reliability of the product under various extreme usage environments.

For example, in the high and low temperature test, we put the stalk kit into high and low temperature cabinet, let the product work at minus 40 degrees Celsius and high temperature of 85 degrees Celsius, then tested its stability.

The salt spray test is used to ensure that the high salt content in the air will corrode the metal parts of the product in coastal countries or regions.
The vibration test is to install the product on a vibration table, so that the vibration table can simulate the vehicle driving under extreme road conditions, and the product can still be used normally.



4.Material Test
The main purpose of material testing is to verify whether the product meets environmental standards, such as ROSH standards. Ensure that product materials do not contain lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and other substances that may potentially pollute the environment. In addition, the xenon lamp aging test is because the position of the lever is under the front windshield and will be exposed to sunlight for a long time. In order to verify the impact of sunlight on the plastic shell of the product and ensure that the plastic shell will not blister after long-term use, the coating falling off, etc.

 
5.Assembly Test
The assembly test included 2 test items. The first test is the durability test. We made a simulation tooling and used equipment to simulate whether the product would experience abnormality when the lever is repeatedly oscillated. This test requires more than 20,000 continuous oscillations for each action.

The second test is the drop test, which aims to ensure that the product may be damaged due to improper operation during installation and transportation.

After 3 months of continuous testing, optimization, validation, re-testing, and re-validation, all the test items for our second-generation stalk kit have finally been completed. Below you will find an overview of all our test items and test results.
